Pete Powdrell, owner of Powdrell's Barbeque House restaurants, passed away Sunday at the age of 86. I remember Pete Powdrell liked the old blues song by Jimmy Reed, Big Boss Man and requested it everytime he heard the Broadway Elks play at the State Fair. I will miss this sweet man and my thanks for the best barbeque in town!

Powdrell's was the first place I ate when I moved here. RIP, Mr. Powdrell.

Wow. That breaks my heart. He was a good man. My thoughts go out to his family.

Wish I could enjoy a nice plate of barbecue today in his honor.

I was talking to my dad earlier tonite (he is transplanted to Portland, OR), and was letting him know about Mr. Powdrell passing away.....he told me about calling on Pete at his 4th street location back in 1980 to sell him dinnerware, said he was one of the nicest men he ever met, honest and straightforward, no games or pretense.....

Beyond barbecue, we should not forget Pete Powdrell's contribution to sports in Albuquerque on the gridiron, hardwood and cinders through his extended family, who thrilled fans at Lincoln, AHS, Highland, UNM and many other venues in the Duke City.

My favorite Pete story was in the mid 90's when there was some event at the Civic plaza during lunchtime, and Powdrell's was setting up a stand and he was in his usuall overalls standing off to the side greeting people and his wife was running the show. He moved a few times from his spot and his wife admonished him, much to the delight of the people there. He was quite a man who left a large shadow in this community.

The first time I ever ate a catfish sandwich was at Powdrells, I was with your dad. RIP Mr Powdrell
