Updated: Nob Hill Gift Basket Giveaway - Winner Announced.

Who wants a killer Nob Hill Gift Basket? It's full of a sorts of cool stuff from the Nob Hill Business Association. All packaged up in a cute sleigh basket. You could give it away, but I'd recommend just keeping it for yourself.

After all, don't you deserve a gift basket this holiday season? I think so.

To get the basket, all you have to do is comment on why you love shopping, dining and wandering in our very own Nob Hill. The best answer will be picked by an esteemed panel of Duke City Fix members and members of the Business Association. And don't forget the Nob Hill Shop and Stroll - tomorrow night.

Cheers!

Update: Congratulations to Masshole in Fringecrest. We all fondly remember Fred's Bred and Bagel. Thanks for participating everyone - shop local!

What's not to love?!
Great food, art, locally owned and creative entrepeneurs, cool films... a little bit of everything (except a gym and a hardware store).
The best place in Albuquerque to feel like you live in a small(er) town.

Over the years I've lived in and around Albuquerque, Nob Hill has held a special place in my heart. Even back when I lived way over in Rio Rancho, I used to come across town to have lunch at Cafe Zurich, and read European magazines. Now, I live in Nob Hill, and I can't imagine living anywhere else in the city. Being able to walk to a plethora of stores, restaurants, and events is a pleasure and a privilege.

I love everything about Nob Hill because I can walk there from my house (or bike or skate) and eat, drink, shop, people watch (from the windows of Kelly's or on the sidewalks) and do it all in a beautiful environment. If it had a trolley running up and down the middle or Central, it might be perfect.

Nob Hill is the only place in the world where I can do and find the following:

A Che Guevara computer mouse pad (Masks y Mas)
Find some Tincture (The Herb Store)
Chow down on macaroni & cheese with *Green Chile* (Flying Star)
Get inked at one of 10-thousand Nob Hill tattoo shops
Purchase a hidden camera for work (The Spy Shop)
Find that Buddha incense holder and Pink Floyd sticker for my car (Angel Alley)
Replenish my strawberry flavored Shisha supply (Hooka Kings)
Brew some ABQ Brew with buds (Kelly's)
And get a Manu Chao Clandestino CD for only 8.99 at Natural Sound..

Oh....yeah......

Best thing about Nob Hill?
I can walk there and:
- get a beer at Geckos, Two Fools, Zinc Cellar Bar, or Monte Vista at 10 pm.
- get a breakfast burrito at any time of the day from Mannies or Bumblebees.
- get coffee and WiFi from sattelite or Flying Star, and get some work done.
- get my fancy schmantzy on at Scalo, Zinc, Vivace, or Gruet.
- get Gelato and a damn fine espresso from ECCO.
- get Korean, Japanese, French, Italian, or Greek food.
- get clothed at Buffalo Exchange, Masks Y Mas, or Revolver.
- get package liquor, toilet paper, and any number of basic essentials from Walgreens.
- people-watch for hours from any number of patios on either side of Central, just to change my perspective.
- do all of this without having to get in my car, drive all over town, look for a parking space, pay a meter, worry that the meter's up and I'm getting a ticket, and spend a bunch of cash on gas.

It is hard (even for me) to put it into words. But I would call it "the magic of Nob Hill" if pressed.
I have always been drawn to the area. I will (hopefully) never buy a home outside the immediate area. The variety of businesses & people painted in to the rich history of the area can't be beat.
We always comment that it feels like we're on vacation when we're in Nob Hill. From the coffee shops to brew pubs to the shops and eateries there is nowhere else I'd rather be regularly.
Let me express my love with a little poem...

Ink on my arm, a magic charm
Fresh tasty veggies from some local farm
Microbrew, fancy hairdo
Comic book, and espresso or two

Patios and people to spy
Flowers, chili, books and pie
Devil mask, silver flask
This was the answer to the question you ask.

Oh how I love Nob Hill
Oh yes, yes, yes I do
I love the drive from my North Valley casita
To visit all of you.

All that groovy jewelry, paper and frocks
I want to buy them all
My Xmas list for Nob Hill
Is bigger than any mall!

Please give this single mother
A chance to win that prize
So I can share all the wealth
And see the glee in my daughter’s eyes!!!

It has long been a favorite area of town for me to shop, with it's diverse and eclectically funky shops! Even with the changes, the flavor of the area still remains. I love going into La Montinita for groceries or vitamins, PeaceCraft for their wonderful contribution to all the countries of the world ( I have found things like candles, clothes, candle snuffers, cashews, chocolate and sugar; but they have so much more-go have a look for yourself!), Birdland for my son's addiction to all things Grateful Dead, Masks Y Mas to browse and look at all the fun stuff, Beeps, of course for my quirky side and the A store 'cause I love their furniture and housewares!!! Of course there's so many more! And I love the all!
My favorite past time is to pick a gloriously warm Albuquerque day and spend the entire day in Nob Hill! Park and start at one end and work my way through! There isn't a better way to spend a day!

OK I have read all the "super cool" comments from all the artsy fartsy people, but these are the reasons I loved Nob Hill when I was in my early 20's. I remember going to Scalo and drinking every last bit of Tanquery that they had at the bar and the staff was willing to go get another bottle... from who knows where???? A lot of the shops knew us by our first names. We were regulars. I loved when The Flying Star was the Double Rainbow, but we would call it the double lesbian because of the great dates we would go on there. We still sometimes call the Flying Star by the same endearment, but only the Nob Hill one. The Central Deli was a great place to eat they had some awesome salads. In Crowd was the place to shop to go out clubbing, they were the only place that sold Doc Martins... Kenny Chavez was and still is the best!!!! Off Broadway had the best vintage in town. BEEPS is the best place to go for that hard to shop for Christmas grinch. Why do I like Nob Hill now? The same reasons: Customer appreciation is always a priority. I was just having a beer at Kelly's the other night and was reminiscing about the old days, but now that I have matured I seem to appreciate that Nob Hill has also matured right along with me... I love Objects of Desire and Zachery's antiques and all the beauty that Nob Hill has to offer, including the people who work in the shops and the people shopping.

I don't expect to win a gift basket for this but...

I think this pretty much sums it up: When I first took a visiting friend (world traveler, lives in Philly) to stroll Nob Hill...she turned to me and said, "Wow! This is so cool! I don't need to go to Santa Fe anymore."

I personally love the diversity...and those morning glories are a very nice and unique touch.
