Is America Ready for a Pin Up President?

Sarah Palin is a woman, yet she sure as hell is not Hillary Clinton. Somehow McCain missed the distinction.

McCain managed to put the entire focus of his campaign on his health yesterday. At 72, and having battled cancer four times, there is a big chance that his VP pick will assume to the throne. McCain had only met Palin one time, around six months ago. She had been investigated along with several other VP choices, but did not rise to the top until a week ago this morning when Obama picked Biden. McCain saw a chance to capture disenchanted Hillary supporters by bringing in a woman, so being the maverick of 10% change, he did. Even I was enthralled by the brilliant chess move of bringing her in, but it's going to bite him on the ass as the very Hillary supporters he sought to lure in turn their backs on him and Palin.

What made Hillary attractive is that she was truly ready to be president. She had the experience, a doctorate in law, an astonishing national network, and world wide respect. Hillary is a true feminist, pro-choice, and a bold advocate of GBLT rights.

Sarah Palin has only been governor for two years; prior to that she was a small town mayor, beauty queen, and sports caster. She only has a bachelor's degree in journalism. She likes to hunt and has five kids. She is really beautiful. She's a fine woman, yet her resume should not have even made the stack for VP consideration. No major corporation would have installed her as CEO on her experience. She's not qualified for VP, and she's sure not ready to step in should McCain's health prevent him from completing his term.

I was worried about McCain's pick at first, yet the novelty will settle down quickly. I believe McCain just handed the election to Obama.

Her resume is thiiiiiin. Instead of the McCain campaign listing what she has accomplished, they told us that she is a mother of 5, rides snowmobiles, and was a heckuva point guard in high school. Okay, that's all I need to know. Sign me up!
Seriously, whether or not you like Hillary, she was well qualified to be president. I just hope that voters aren't so dumb.
Scratch that, America elected "W" twice. God help us all.

Comment by Skip on August 31, 2008 at 8:23pm: Jonathan Martin (National Review, Politico) reports McCain's choice "has electrified conservative activists, providing a boost of energy to the GOP nominee-in-waiting from a key constituency that previously had been lukewarm — at best — about him." He cites three key groups who had been holding out from getting involved in the campaign: the Pro-Gun constituency, the Right-To-Lifers, and the religious right. (Apparently she's also an Assembly of God Pentecostal). These groups have mobilized their phone banks and email lists for a get-out-the-vote campaign, and they've kicked in 7 million bucks since the announcement. Whether she's VP material or not, it looks like McCain's surprise is a work of political brilliance.
