Albuquerque has some of the most amazing and unusual entertainment in America. Each year a mostly local group of femme entertainers put on a burlesque, circus, music, etc. show called the Femme-o-lition Derby. It was ninety minutes of astonishing talent and girl girl loving. Matie Fricker and Molly Adler of Self Serve Toys provided running comedy relief as they worked the audience and introduced the acts:

While everyone was wonderful, the hit of the show was beatbox guru Ashley Moyer aka SayWhat. I was astonished at the number of simultaneous sounds she could maintain while also singing. She received a vibrant standing ovation and did an encore that was better than the original set:

The more traditional circus performers (such as Abigail Baird, below) were daring and beautiful---always a good combo:

Have I told you lately how much I love ABQ?

Incredible show! Thanks to Sophie and DCF for the tickets! We hadn't been to the Derby since #2 down in the south valley and it has really come a long way. The performances were excellent and the Self Serve emcees were superb. Would love to see them running the show at Southwest Burlesque this winter.

WOW - looks like a lot of fun was had. I wish I coulda been there - yet I already had Tix for the Thirsty Ear Festival and a reunion with a girlfriend I had not seen in over 14 years (and two cities)!!!

Yes, I second the thanks to Sophie and DCF for the free tickets. This event wasn't on my radar at all, and we had a really, really fun time. I also must admit that I now have quite a straight-girl crush on the AMAZING Ashley Moyer. I got goosebumps twice during her set. And all the others were fabulous too. I will definitely go again next year. Thanks DCF for reminding us of all the incredible entertainment that is right here in Burque!

I also wanted to give huge kudo's to Femme-O-lition for welcoming Guava Chiffon (a born male drag performer). Many primarily lesbian events have a, if you can't leave your dick in a drawer don't come to the door policy. As a transgender person that sometimes feels left out of what I perceive to be the community where I belong, Chiffon's inclusion meant a lot to me. Matie Fricker said it best, "you don't have to be born female to be a femme."

Would someone please let me know who the aerial performer is in my bottom shot. You can't really see in these small photos, but she has amazing full color, full sleeve tattoos. She was awesome!
