What's going on, Albuquerque?

Monday Morning Traffic

I had the pleasure of driving in trafffic this morning at 7:45. As I was driving it seemed amazing to me. Everyone on the road is in a rush to get to where they are going so much so they are willing to cause traffic to come to a complete stop so they could move to the front of the line. Thank goodness I only have to venture in to that mess every once in a while. And business owners who have employees. Did you ever consider staggering your start times so everybody doesn't have to be at work at the same time. We can all do a little to make a great improvement.

i worked in an office in brentwood whose hours were 7:30 to 4:30. to some degree it was to work better with major clients that were mostly eastern & central time, but also after the 1994 northridge earthquake which knocked out the 10 freeway, staggered start times were the solution to the traffic congestion. thing is, after the freeway was repaired, everyone loved leaving work while the sun was still up - even in winter - that they kept the hours.

Comment by killbox on September 29, 2008 at 11:42pm: my work has staggered start times, its not really out of concern for traffic but more for coverage, we have people there from 8am until 10pm, im very thankful im on the 8:30-5:30 shift it gets me mostly out of rush our traffic, (I also make the conscious decision to live less than 10 minutes away from work (roughly 3.0 miles) and next time i move i may look for something closer, save on gas and co2. )

Comment by Lee on September 30, 2008 at 4:39pm: sorry...in my opinion bad traffic behavior is a human trait.. not peculiar to Abq..indeed compare to some of the places I work.. abq drivers are actually friendly.
One of the things I like about ABQ is the general lack of bad traffic and the generally polite disposition of drivers. I'm still shocked when someone waves me over because I have my blinker on.
Just goes to show you... so much of life is relative.
