Dave Denny Obituary
Dave Denny died peacefully at his home on Friday, October 17th , 2008. He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on October 20, 1944 to parents Benjamin and Rosenda Denny. He was preceded in death by his mother Rosenda Denny, father Benjamin Denny and his brother, Benny Jr. and beloved pets Sleepy, Sadie and Posole. He is survived by his girlfriend Carol Lynn Ryan, his aunt Marie Ondelacy and cousins Keith Ondelacy, Donna and Joe Williams and his dog Yoda.
Dave led a full and passionate life. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Washington D.C. during the early years of Vietnam. He enjoyed traveling to Uruguay and going on "Blues Cruises." He was a food aficionado. He loved his pets deeply. Dave loved to be on the stage and on film, and was many times. He was a wonderful friend and community member. He may be best remembered for his commitment to the Albuquerque Blues community. For 35 years, Dave was a radio deejay at KUNM for a variety of shows over the years including Home Cooking and The Blues Show. Every other Wednesday listeners could tune in to The Blues Show and hear Dave's velvety smooth voice serving up the best from Blues masters local, famous, and little known. In this way, Dave was a regular guest in living rooms across New Mexico and beyond. His devotion and kindness will be missed. Dave was a pillar of the Blues community affectionately known by some as "The Godfather of the Blues" and he'd want to be remembered expressing gratitude to his audience, "Thank you for loving the Blues." We'll miss you.
