I had been wondering what the bike boxes were - I had never seen it before. I had to Google it to find out what it's supposed to be, but I doubt that very many drivers will understand what it means or respect it.

I found something here about bike boxes.

The bike boxes sound like an interesting idea. Frankly though, I was not surprised by the comments on the KOB site. Let's face it, there are some really moron cyclists in this town. We do have good efforts on the behalf of law-abiding cyclists, like the folks at BikeABQ, to educate cyclists, but somehow it's not enough. I still see the occasional half-witted bicyclist who apparently has a date with death as he rides up the wrong side of the street.

As usual - we need better education and respect for both sides - motorists and cyclists. Not everybody is a nutter, but I see dangerous things on a regular basis. Lately I've be seeing close calls between cars turning onto the one-ways and bicyclists cycling up the wrong way on the street. It's scary and I hope nobody gets hurt. I'm making a mental notation to triple-check for wrong way riders (besides the usual double check for wrong way cars) on Lead and Coal.

The meteor event last night was captured by an experimental all-sky capture system on loan from Sandia National Laboratories to Tom Ashcraft in Eldorado. Tom captured the big meteor in the northern sky last night. Tom also explains the purpose of his sky-watching. He has nice archives of past events as well.
