Comment by Rodrigues on December 19, 2007 at 9:13am: Even if you're not a believer in any religion you can gleam historical, ethical and personal insight from the various religious texts. I think a desire to scoff at them comes from a mix of the discomfort between those who easily 'believe' and those who do not believe at all, and a need for the latter to point out 'I am not one of those people' and shows a certain lack of respect... otherwise, if you don't read the Bible, Koran, Torah, or what have you, there would be no need to call attention to that fact. I think people feel the need to point those sorts of things out as part of their identity.
