Concerning the alien campaign...

I read the editorial by the tourism staff explaining the huge success of the ads. I think success being defined as views of a novel commercial is debatable. Bored office folk in Minnesota and nerdy teenagers in Iowa forwarding a video of grotesque aliens to their friends and co-workers doesn't hit me as something that will result in money flowing in to the tourism dept, maybe its just me.

I think it boils down to an issue of taste. Just because something grabs people's attention doesn't mean that it has the lasting impression of what New Mexico is and has to offer. I know when I was living out of state something like this would have been fodder for people to say "Oh, you're from the Alien state...(snidely)sweet"

People also like to slow down to view a car wreck.
