I've always enjoyed the Alibi's witty and well-written restaurant reviews, but this week's really caught my eye. It's about a Downtown pizza shop owner who delivers pizza for Pizza Hut in his spare time. At least for now...

"He says he likes comparing his superior pies to theirs and spilling their dirty little secrets."

I've never even heard of Tony's. I'll have to check it out.

Oh pizza pie, can I go with you?

So who is their new writer, anyway? Anyone have opinions on their writing style? I kind of liked Jennifer, now that she's grown on me...

I wish it had actual tiny pizzas inside each pizza.

Instead of the pepperonis, that is.

So folks I know in the know say that working for Pizza Hut isn't the only thing going on in "Tony's" spare time.

Andrea, I think Maren Tarro is splitting restaurant-review duties with Jennifer these days. I don't know much about here except that she was an Alibi intern within the last year.

Lunch @ Tony's yesterday confirms some damn good pizza. Green chile & pepperoni was tasty with a great crust -- not too thin, not too puffy or greasy but both chewy and crispy. Yum. Thanks, Andrew!

We live downtown and Tony's has been a staple of ours for a few years now. Besides making tasty pizza, Tony is great to his regulars--we hadn't been customers for very long when he started recognizing us by our orders ("Oh yeah, you're Peri and Turtle, the green olives and sausage folks!"). He'll also take requests, like a thinner crust or slightly longer cooking. Tony rocks.

Dang...I don't know how long this has been true, but we tried to order from Tony's on Sat night and found out they are now closed on Sat and Sun! Ohhhh noooo! The message said this was part of their "winter hours" so perhaps they'll be open weekends again in the spring...? Next time I order from them I'm going to plead for Sat/Sun pizza!

Maren, I liked your review in last week's Alibi. I'm about 50/50 on whether or not you're joking about the complicated entrance routine.
