My partner and I were taking a drive north on 4th street this last Sunday evening. As we were nearing I-40 I was nearly thrown out the wind shield from the slamming of the brakes. My partner pointed and said, "LOOK!! When did that happen?" To my dismay the Dos Amigos sign had been covered by a "Weck's Open in February" sign. Does anyone know what/when it happened. Seems I was just there a couple of weeks ago and there wasn't any indication that they were in any kind of trouble.

RIP Dos Amigos, if indeed you are gone. You will be greatly missed.

They moved, the owners did not renew the contract. I guess they are way in the heights off Juan Tabo and candelaria (I think). Dos Amigos is not gone just relocated. They have the best QUESO in the world!!!!!

I don't know, but I'm pretty sick of seeing Weck's signs going up on every damn street corner.

They have moved next to the old Hastings in the heights. The old place was too big and the rent and utilities were eating them alive. I worked with them when their business was known as Angela's where Los Cuates is currently. Their mom Lucy recently passed away and they open this week. They are excited about the new place.

Wecks used to be at One Civic Plaza which is now the Plaza Eatery. Fitzerman, I agree the food at Wecks was not that great. I am like you Paula, I rarely go to the heights just to eat and will miss Dos Amigos we used to be able to go for lunch, since its not that far from downtown.

EFP, not sure if you meant that comment as sarcasm or not. But.....don't even get me started on the Flying Star! Just because I place is popular doesn't mean it's good. McDonalds is popular too, but I NEVER eat there! I guess I'm not one to follow the crowd. I prefer the secret gems that no one knows about.

oops, typing too fast, meant to say "Just because A place", not I place! :)

Are you certain that Dos Amigos relocated? We tried going to lunch there (4th St.) last Thursday and the signs posted all over the windows read that Dos Amigos closed "for good" on 12/24.

culture jam 'em: just leave your weck's tip inside a planned parenthood brochure.

Objective: By the way, the new Dos Amigos has slightly changed its name, according to the flyer they were handing out late last month. It's now Los Amigos, or something similar . . . don't remember exactly.

Subjective: The dialogue about bigotry is deep. We all have the right to use our economic influence to support or not support things based on our own values. If we are businesspeople, the exercise of that right may be a little different, but the underlying principle is the same. (Public employees and institutions, in the conduct of public business, do not have the same right, unless endorsed by due process.)

Is that bigotry? Bigotry is "stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own" (Random House).

At another level, we all endorse capitalism, oil companies, global warming, and the war in Iraq economically, every day.

Cheers!

Here Here Mr. Malcolm.

Now if we could just get those folks driving their SUV's to Dos/Los Amigos, Weck's or Flying Star to think about that before they drive.

What ever happened to the good ol' days of small Japanese cars?
