It seems that half the ebay auctions that I bid on end up being won by a certain person called "albuquirkygal". Old postcards, photos, general Albuquerque memorabilia. Who is this person? What is she doing with all that stuff? Is it in a museum somewhere? In an antique shop? I guess I could email her and ask directly but that would be too logical and simple. I prefer to make "anonymous" rants about her in my pseudo blog so I have an excuse to post a funny picture, and hope for insightful comments...

Great blog post! I know the name too, she emailed me asking about an old Albuquerque Hockey t-shirt from the 70s I was selling.

good luck out there!

Meh... I don't let ebay get to me as much as it does that cat. I made a rule a long time ago to never rebid on items I was losing. The sniping IS kind of annoying though.

Oh, dear..... Once again I am the most hated woman on eBay...... Well, to confound the rumors and speculations..... I am not an antique dealer and I do not sell the stuff I buy on eBay. Much of it is given to the Albuquerque Museum (see, for example, the small case of sterling silver souvenir spoons in the museum that is [I think] still on display. Note the name of the giver: Nancy Tucker. That's me. The spoons on display are some of nearly 150 that I've purchased on eBay and given to the museum.) Ask museum history curator Deb Slaney about my other donations. Also ask museum photoarchivist Glenn Fye about my donations to his department, too. Then trot over to the Special Collections Department of the Albuquerque Public Library (the pueblo-style building on the northwest corner of Central and Edith) and ask one of the librarians there about the source of many of their yearbooks. You'll find it's me, again. Ask about the source of many of their city maps, too...... I give other stuff to that library, too.... My great collecting passion is postcards, especially Albuquerque cards, and also postcards of old New Mexico hotels and hot springs, New Mexico TB sanitariums and railroad depots. I have contributed postcard images (free!) to Mike Smith's book about the towns of the East Sandias, to Richard Melzer's upcoming book on the Harvey Houses of the Southwest, to Ty Bannerman's upcoming book on "lost" Albuquerque, and I've also written a short essay on collecting Albuquerque postcards for Mandy Gardner's Albuquerque Almanac-in-Progress. All of them can vouch for my Albuquerque mono-mania, which has been fueled by eBay as I re-patriate Albuquerque ephemera from around the world.

Oh I've seen that spoon collection at the museum! It's spectacular! I worked with Deb Slaney on the Albuquerque Fashion in the 50's exhibit a few years ago. I lent the museum cat eye glasses, bakelite purses, cowboy boots, beaded sweaters, etc. I love that you share your passion with the community and don't just keep everything boxed up in a closet - like so much of my stuff. Keep collecting! And then join my ABQ Collectors group!!!

Awwwwsome! I don't really "hate you" I was just curious why your name popped up so much. Thanks for the tidbits it will make the museums visits more enjoyable. See you on ebay!

As a fellow in the Center for Southwest Research, I can say that some of that stuff would be well received around here as well, though you'd have to check w the archivists. Great job!
