the diebenkorn review by roberta smith includes a wonderful line: "In many ways his painting was never freer, less predictable or more full of the future than in New Mexico." it is not only a statement about his work but rather one describing the great state we live in. it is rewarding to read about an artist who lived and thrived in albuquerque rather the usual suspects (taos and santa fe).

p.s. somegye--diebenkorn is an abstract expressionist, not an expressionist (there is a difference beyond semantics)...and thank you for including the link!

Re: Zipcar
"Martin said the rates will be $9-$13 per hour, depending on the car, which includes gas and insurance. The company's Web site says daily rates start at $66."

That's awfully expensive, compared to parking in the ramp or taking a taxi or renting a car. Maybe the attraction around universities is that they rent to people 18 and up. I heard you usually have to be 25 to rent a car. And you still have to park the thing. They have reserved spaces at UNM that are guaranteed? Who did they take them from, and how handy are they?

There's one in A Lot facing the new architecture building which makes it pretty convenient to many things on campus.

A taxi ride in Albuquerque is not cheaper than $9/hr. A taxi is about that amount to go from one side of UNM to the other if you don't count the tip. Ususally it would be about $12 to go from MLK to Nob Hill. And that's one way. Most car rental companies you do have to be 24, except Budget.

I just applied to join ZipCar - having had a car stolen and not wanting to immediately replace it - and now living in Nob Hill - it seemed like a good interim solution in addition to riding the bus.
