Tonight's the 5th lecture in the John Gaw Meem series going on through April at UNM.
Defiant Gardens: Making Gardens in Wartime
I'm going for the lecture, but also to bask in the stark allure of the new architecture & planning building by Antoine Predock.
At night, the place buzzes. There's a steady stream of lights from Route 66 flickering under the nearly suspended glass rooms and you can hear the hum of students working late in the open studio somewhere below you. It's like being on a date with the university, if um, you could date buildings. An anthropomorphism of which, I suspect, not all the studio creatures working late into the night on their own architectural dreams would disapprove.
