Launchpad Status After Golden West Fire?

A moment of silence for The Golden West Saloon. Good luck to Kathy Zimmer as she (hopefully) begins the process of rebuilding.

Anyone have any update on the state of Launchpad? I've heard major smoke and water damage, and the website says it is temporarily closed. What an enormous (temporary?) loss to the music community.

Damn fire.

Update: Here's a pretty cool myspace post from The Shins on the Golden West.

I ran into Richard Trot last night (Launchpad's sound guy) He said the retaining wall between Launchpad and the Golden West was completely gone. He also said that all the electronic equipment was on that wall and was on the receiving end of a huge amount of water before being under the collapse of the wall. He seemed to think it would be 2-3 months at the least before Launchpad can be up and running again.

Maybe they can kick off the Fall Crawl with a grand-reopening.

As much as I'd like to take credit for the rad photo, all kudos should be directed to Ms. Gwyneth Doland.

Jonny: Golden West was in the process of/had just completed re-finishing their floors. We were speculating that they had left the varnish rags in the basement which could very easily have lead to a flammable gas buildup which in turn could have been ignited by a compressor on any of the refrigeration units.

why would the owner Kathy Zimmer suggest that unless the public sector ponied up the funds via "fund-raising, doations" that this will be the end of the Golden West/El Rey??
Don't they have insurance to cover the losses in a fire??

If I were the owner of the Launchpad, I would offer to buy the Golden West space and expand there, and just have Kathy concentrate on bringing back the El Rey. There's space down the street (Harlow's?) for another small to medium size bar to replace the GW (damn, I hate choking these words out... Sorry to have to think about these thoughts....)

I knid of reminded of the golden inn out on the other side of the mountain. Remember when it was the big place for new and upcoming bands, then a fire, and then....history...

I'm so sad to see the GW burn down. But now that 3 bars are out of commission (at least temporarily) on Central Ave. how about rethinking closing our main street to traffic for 104 days a year. I can't believe the mess the bars and related street closings have made of our downtown on weekends.

You guys may be right. Maybe cruising is 100% responsible for closing Central Ave. Fri. and Sat. nights. Even so, let's try another way to control downtown on weekends.
