Mayor Marty's habit of bringing an adoptable pet to his public appearances netted yet another family at the groundbreaking for the new solar panel manufacturing plant at Mesa del Sol last week. Yes, my wife and I adopted a furry critter.
One of the nice things about adopting the animal you meet at one of these events is that all the fees are waived. That's right, when we went to pick her up at the Albuquerque Animal Center, the fee section of the paperwork says "waived by mayor." Those fees would have included spaying, vaccinations and microchipping had we just walked in to the shelter and picked her out. Because we all, my wife, the dog, and I, attended the mayor's public appearance at the same time, we just went to the shelter, filled out a couple of pieces of paper and brought her home. We even got a free first visit to the vet courtesy of the city.
Our new friend is doing well, except for some gastric problems as she gets used to her new diet. She's sweet natured, loves people, and seems to have settled nicely into her new home. The name she came with is Erica, but we don't think she looks like an Erica. Since we met her at Mesa del Sol, we're thinking of something that has to do with the sun, and it fits her sunny disposition and her coloring. Do you have a suggestion? Check out the photo - we'll take any suggestion and try it out with her.
