My children and I drove down to my parent’s house in the South Valley on Sunday.
Driving down South Broadway we hit blowing sand and tumbleweeds. It looked like a xeric redo of the tribbles from Star trek; dozens of small, Jack Russell Terrier sized tumbleweeds bent on their own destruction hurled themselves under the car. This was punctuated by sheep sized tumbleweeds and small cow sized tumbleweeds that I had to dodge. While was having visions of entombment in sand, my son was bouncing up and down in his and yelling things like "All right, Mom you got that one” No Mom, go over, you're going to miss it!” He also shrieked with glee every time we hit one. My oldest daughter and I were not so amused. It slowed when we got Rio Bravo and we hit blowing sand again just east of the river and once we got to my parents, but nothing like the South Broadway attack.
