I realize that I could look that information up on the National Weather Service website, but I'm wondering if anyone remembers that last time it rained here in Albuquerque? I remember waking up to heavy rain early, early one morning--that was sometime during duck hunting season, because my husband had already left the house. But has it really not rained since before duck hunting season ended? What's your last memory of rain?

I think it was right after the last time I washed my car.

I don't know when duck hunting season was, but according to the National Weather Service we had 0.41 inches of precipitation last month, which is just about normal for February. So far March has yet to get on the board, making us a little more than half an inch short for the year so far. A lot of February's precip was in the form of snow rather than rain, but I seem to remember there being some rain as well.

Can't remember the last time it rained either. The runoff this season is supposed to be the largest in three decades. If its a slow melt that means good news for water levels, if its a fast melt it could mean really bad runoff and flooding.

Large snowfall after years of drought is always dangerous in the spring... we'll see.

I believe it rained during Wabbit season

I can never remember, but the obsessive need to look things like this up is an occupational hazard:
We had a trace of precipitation, but not enough to measure, on Feb. 24 and March 2,3, 5 and 6. The last measurable rain was 0.16 inch Feb. 23. It was above freezing that day at the Weather Service station out at the airport, so my guess is that was rain. (All these numbers are for the airport weather station.)

It's a weird year here, because despite the huge runoff we're expecting, Albuquerque has had just 72 percent of its normal precipitation since Oct. 1 (what they call the "water year"). You can draw a line roughly diagonally across New Mexico from Raton to Silver City. To the north and west, above the line, it's sopping wet. To the south and east, it's dry as hell. I have this cognitive dissonance problem, because I've been writing so much about the wet part (snow, runoff) that I tend to forget how dry it is in my own backyard.

This is funny - I was in Albuquerque for a week last month, on what I hope was my last trip before I move out there for good, and I remember having my wipers on a lot. Looks like I picked the only week it was raining - we got there on February 19th & left on the 25th.

I love the Drought Monitor site...it looks, though, like we are currently still in the part of NM free from drought conditions. (bring on the April showers).

Lucky is right....I was at Pres Hospital and had to use my umbrella. Also, either that morning or the next we woke up to a downpour about 3 am. Our pooch was barking...guess the noise on the roof scared her.

On my walk to work this morning I was sure it was going to rain today. Just completely positive. Alas...
