Local news talk radio giant 770 KKOB AM has been ordered by the FCC to reduce its wattage from a booming 50,000 watts to a measly 1,000 watts on Tuesday, April 1st. Notice the date??

According to a petition posted on the KKOB website, the FCC has ordered this move to accommodate other growing markets that have stations on the same 770 Frequency.

April Fools or serious encroachment of the airwaves? The Journal is blogging on this and hasn't gotten any confirmation.

But if this IS a joke, the folks over at KKOB are both brilliant AND dastardly. More to come ...

Gotta be a joke...1000 watts is paltry.

It's nothing more than an April Fools joke.....

Of course it's a joke. Which is too bad.

I would much prefer it if KKOB was reduced to 1000 watts

I will never believe anything KKOB says regarding April 1st after they got Mike Roberts to go on air three years ago and say he was being transferred to NMSU to do their games.

Also, Pat Frisch is a hate-filled, homophobic cretin. Ask some BikeABQ members about Frisch's little rant against bicyclists a couple of weeks ago if you'd like more information.

Did anything ever become of his ant-cyclist snit? I know lots of riders were pushing for an on air apology but I never heard anything more. What's even more sad is Jim Villanucci(sp), a triathlete, remained quiet about the whole thing.

I thought it was KKKOB. Them hate-slingers are so witty with their April Fools. Unfortunately the fart jokes, ignorant smears and overall frat-boy buffoonary will continue at 50,000 watts. Should be regulated by the epa... complete air pollution.

I still listen to AM radio.

Real oldies 1600 AM isn't so bad. I find myself listening to it in the car a lot. DJ's aren't too obnoxious. And they play A LOT of music.

1550 AM used to be pretty good when they played a lot of Frank Sinatra and had a real big band type format.

"I thought it was KKKOB." -That was bad bleve, funny neverless, but still bad. It was good for a laugh.

Myself, I really do not care what KKOB does. I mean, this is america where we have the right to free-speach (with in reason of course). So in my book, KKOB can continue "the fart jokes, ignorant smears and overall frat-boy buffoonary continue at 50,000 watts." cus well, someone has to do it.
