Albuquerque Wheelchair basketball team shown gym door

You can check out the story and read the comments on KOBTV 4 website. It's regarding the current situation with UNM's Johnson Gym management kicking our team out. This after a 27 year relationship.
We could really use everyones support!

Wheelchair basketball team shown gym door

If you're interested in helping out we're going to be starting a petition soon. I'll post here again about it next week.

The team only practices at Johnson one day a week, the rest of the week they practice at the Barelas community center downtown. Johnson is a really nice facility and it's practically empty on the weekends which is helpful for practices. It's just unfortunate because like the article said they have been practicing there for over 20 years.

Well UNM has plenty of facilities for everyone to use them on the weekend. I think one issue might be, for the team, that there aren't many gyms open on Saturdays with the facilities they need. But I'm getting together with them later in the week to work out the whole petition deal so I'll ask more questions then.

Yeah I work at the computer lab environments on campus and I've raised the issue of accessibility time and again with my employers. We have wheelchair accessible stations at special desks designed to accommodate wheelchairs yet none of the doors to any of the pods are electric. ADA my ass.

Wow, just wow. Does Judge Murdoch know about this? Is this just the adult team or are the kids out too? What about the power soccer team? Big bummer!
