"The Heat" played our first summer softball
game last night under the lights at Bullhead Park
. We had a good turn out of women and we looked good in our new uniforms but the other team proved to be the better hitters. We lost 4-28 but had a good time and I was thrilled to see real live score boards on the fields. The field umpire said he didn't like them because they make the games run over the time limit. I thought they were great and made me feel like a professional weekend player. Of course this meant we (and everyone else) were able to see how poorly we performed but I figure we didn't get skunked so it is a better start than the previous seasons and we have lots of room and time to improve. I always enjoy seeing the team get better and better with each game. We don't practice much and really are just a recreational team so it always feels like we are in the wrong league when the other team gets up to bat and smacks the crap out of the ball.
I felt good about my playing, I had one walk, hit a shot down the third baseline and even made a double play while playing second. It helped that the lady who hit couldn't run but you take what you can get sometime and I'm not too proud so I'll take it.
All in all it was a good night but I think we might need to go the batting cages and practice catching fly balls like those ladies smacked. Damn, I wish I could hit like that.
