Metropolitan Homelessnes Project: Duke City SleepOut

The Metropolitan Homelessness Project is sponsoring the Duke City SleepOut on Friday, May 2nd. All proceeds from the event will benefit the homeless of Albuquerque. The event starts at 7pm at the Albuquerque Opportunity Center (715 Candelaria NE). There will be music, movies, snacks, and a "best box" contest (which I will be entering). I will be attending with friends and I encourage everyone to go. :) The minimum amount of donations is $30 for individuals and $50 per group (unlimited amount of people per group).

If you would like more information, please visit http://www.mhp-nm.org/

Hope to see you there! :)

I'm all for helping the homeless. My wife and I cook and serve at Project Share several times a month and paticipate in projects for the homeless at our church. But doesn't this "sleep out" seem like a slap in the face for the homeless? Sure, it will raise some money which will go who knows where. But movies, snacks and music? Down sleeping bags and no fear of being assaulted while you doze? I'm just sayin'

i'm sorry, but "best box" that's appalling. give your money, volunteer, make a difference, but don't make light of a situation like that.
