Albuquerque Supports Married Gay Couples

Thousands of couples woke up today no longer legally married...

they are grieving in the midst of real happiness..

I am asking DCFers and others to decorate your car ala post-wedding festivities: streamers, balloons plus a sign that says "My Friends are Still Married".

My friends Liz and Henae are out lesbian teachers in Phoenix who were married in CA in July;

Today at lunch their kids in GSA are decorating their car just this way... Join us.

How can somebody be married one day & not the next? (besides divorce, I mean) Is the state of California going to go take back all the certificates?

i have the same question...if these couples got married during a period when the state Supreme Court had ruled that gay marriage was legal, how can they retroactively retract that now? i know prop 8 forbids new marriages, but wouldn't the old ones still be valid?

that is the question of the day. I believe there is a movement afoot to nullify all those marriages. There is also a movement to appeal the ballot initiative to the supreme court of Calif on the grounds that this kind of significant change to the constitution actually cannot legally be made by ballot initiative (but that is a long shot).

This issue may not go away until the Federal government gets involved as they did with the civil rights movement

A significant movement has been started to take the results of this election to the Supreme Court - I am not a fan of the attorney Gloria Allred - but she is leading the battle for her clients (the ones who won the first battle) and going back to the court to find this election unlawful. As a clergy person who performed several weddings for my friends in CA this past year - I was saddened terribly by the results. It shows what evil is still done in the name of God - unfortunately not the compassionate, loving God I know.
