It was a busy weekend in Albuquerque. There were car shows and cash mobs and, biggest of them all, the Centennial Summerfest.
It was really cool to see Downtown Albuquerque literally overflowing with activity -- people, vendors, musicians, artists, games, exhibits, food, and tons more.
The larger-than-life puppets that I saw during the Founder's Day celebration in Old Town were out and about again.
And I just couldn't resist taking a couple shots of this excellent example of fitting juxtaposition.
I hope you had a chance to head downtown at some point during Summerfest. It was absolutely worth getting out for.

Nice photos, Eric - it was a pretty good show, all-in-all. Really good chow - yummy fried calamari at Pelican's and an organic salmon salad at some other vendor. And I really enjoyed Opera Southwest's lovely (and talented - she's going to the Met!) soprano - lots of other good music, too!
It would have been better if they shut down a bit later, so the food vendors could sell a dinner crowd - people were pouring in at the end.
Maybe ABQ could turn this downtown deal into a summer solstice celebration and do it yearly - showcase local performers and food, plus throw a show at the Civic Plaza. Throw a parade at the end to get people out of Central and into the Plaza.
Did you see the Obama flash mob?
This would be an awesome annual event. A little more shade (especially for the food-truck food court) and a somewhat later start would help, but looking out at the crowd for Los Lobos from the back of the Civic Plaza was great - an excellent and timely infusion of civic pride. Nice to see the variety of folks out enjoying themselves and getting along.
