The Glints and Shadows through Grime
Today I joined a Flickr photography group to a visit to the Santa Fe sate penitentiary. We met in Santa Fe and were allowed about two hours to take photographs inside the old abandoned prison.
All is Dusky, Arrayed with Shimmering Decay
The New Mexico Penitentiary Riot, which took place on February 2 and February 3, 1980 was one of the most violent prison riots in the history of the American correctional system: 33 inmates died and more than 200 inmates were treated for injuries. None of the 12 guards taken hostage were killed but seven were treated for injuries caused by beatings and rapes.
The keeper of the keys told a diferent story. He was present during the riots and now walks the dark halls, locked inside, guarding the old relick.

Rick La Monda
said that there were actually about 75 inmates killed, not the 33 reported.

We got to see the gas chamber
They also filmed the 2005 movie "The Longest Yard" at the prison. Some of the movie sets/props are still present, although they are weathering real fast.
Some of the photographers were creeping out, some say there are ghosts within the walls of the prison.
Although I personally did not see any ghosts, I did have a good time visiting the old prison.
