Like to Paint? Ever think of doing it for a Nuclear Museum?

The soon-to-be named National Museum of Nuclear Science & History needs help! We are deep into the throws of moving from our old-town location to our new building, planning opening events, AND continuing to build, install, and prep our new exhibits! (EVERYTHING AT ONCE! ACK!)

So, how can you help? Tonight & tomorrow night we are welcoming able bodied volunteers to come help us paint our new exhibit walls so that once our exhibit fabrication company shows up (from out of state) with our NEW REDESIGNED PROFESSIONALLY MADE exhibits next week, they have pretty new walls to install them on!

If you have some time tonight or tomorrow night - give us a call! (505) 245-2137 x. 114. And if you're really good, and have some spare time on your hands over the next 2 weeks....we have more to do that would benefit from your generous donation of time and energy!!

GOOD QUESTION! It's on the South West corner of Southern & Eubank.

we actually have TONS of sandia/retired/military/lab volunteers. however, as much as I love my guys....I need more able bodied folks for this. Our regular volunteers have been a GODSEND during all of this, but we've hit the heavy parts where we'd love to bring in a different crew - and not break our old guys before grand opening! We need those guys to be able to docent once we open. :)

Are you painting the walls dayglo? Or maybe with that radium paint that was popular during the early 1900's? It's long lasting and would cut down on your lighting bills.....

Maybe you should contact Sandia or Los Alamos (I don't know how - but you must have contacts) and see if they have some sort of retiree list that can be contacted for volunteers.

I haven't been told a specific time yet, but I can say that there are already staff there prepping right now, and the painting will start probably like 4 or 5, until 8 or 9ish.

Oh my guys got a serious demotion in location.

actually, the price was right, and the statistics show that "destination" or "direct audience" venues like us, when put in places like our current location in old town tend to do poorly. Why? because when people come to old town and have that long line of venues to attend, well, they'll more than likely go to the Alb. Museum or the Nat. History. BUT, when you truly make unique experiences like us an EXPERIENCE, one that people have to travel to...statistics say that we'll do well. Plus, our data shows that most of our attendance is non-local - meaning that they are tourists that go out of their way to attend anyway. And, we have an extraordinary amount of international visitation (for our size and type of venue and whatnot, in comparison to other destinations). And for locals that love us - so many of them drive past the new space on their way to and from work every day anyway....that we've received GREAT response!

can you tell that I've put a lot of research and thought into this? I'm still trying to convince myself that my new commute will be ok (I live 1.5 miles from the old town location in downtown, by the zoo and country club...sigh).

oh, and I'm REALLY going to miss all the great food and restaurants that the old town location has given for lots of yummy lunches!

seriously....a LOT of thought.... :)

I'm gonna go with the notion that we're hand rolling because we're poor and stretching the remainder of our relocation budget SUPER THIN :)
