McGinnis School of Driving instructor/owner to bicyclists on the road: "GET THE F*CK OFF!"

Ryan McGinnis of Albuquerque's McGinnis School of Driving posted a rather chilling comment on his Facebook page back in September: "For people that ride there [sic] bike on the road GET THE F*CK OFF!"

I find it pretty disturbing that a prominent driving instructor of all people feels this way. Is he passing this attitude down to his students?

Here's a screenshot of the post:

Marcy McGinnis responded to my inquiry about the comment on the school's Facebook page:

"McGinnis School of Driving is a proponent of, and teaches in our classroom "Share the Road". So, to answer your question, our students are given the education, both in the classroom and behind-the-wheel on sharing the road not only with bicyclists, but pedestrians, big-rigs, and any other vehicle that is legally granted use of our roadways.

"That being said, there are many people that feel frustrations at any given time, be it car drivers vs. bicyclists OR the reverse, bicyclists vs. cars; throw semi's vs. cars in there as well! With all the many types of different users of our roadways education, consideration and tolerance is the key to sharing the road. That is the point of "Share the Road". Share the road is intended for ALL users of our roadways. It was developed to create awareness as well as tolerance. There is not one single entity that is granted exclusive use of our roadways. Since this concept of multiple use creates many safety issues and risks, you must trust that "the other person" not only possess this knowledge, but has the courtesy to use it. Education of all users, bicyclists, motorcyclists, cars, pedestrians and big-rigs included is the idea behind Share the Road. What one chooses to do with that education is a personal decision. As with all of segments of our classes, our main objective is teaching "The Psychological Condition of Being a Good Driver".

"To answer your other question, I do not know if it is true what an instructor posted on their facebook page. If one of our instructors chooses to exercise their right to free speech on their personal page, I will not interfere with that right. I am quite sure that would be of more interest to the media than any off hand comments someone puts on their timeline. Like any business, we cannot and will not censor our employees personal lives. Perhaps your question should appear on their timeline."

"If one of our instructors chooses to exercise their right to free speech on their personal page..."

Isn't Ryan McGuinnis maybe an owner, or closely related to the owner and not just an employee?   I bet if the last name was maybe Smith, that person would be riding a bike on the street, looking for a new job.  (Although why a bicyclist would risk his life riding on the road, and not take advantage of the side lane is beyond me... - it's tough finding side routes away from the main roads.)

It looks like the person who snapped the pic--most likely Ryan McGinnis--is on the passenger side of the car. Which means he was probably giving a driving lesson when he made this observation.

Is that an electric bike, or at least w/ engine attatched?

Cheers, Mi3ke
