Speaking of buying local, Merrilou and I had breakfast at Mick's this morning. As usual, the food was great, the portions generous and the chile hit the spot! The waitress was cheerful and attentive. Our coffee cups were never allowed to go below half.

Alibi Review of Mick's

I had an omelet with green and Merrilou had the "small" breakfast burrito with red and green (don't be foolish and order the "shocker", it's big enough to feed at least three people!) She couldn't finish her breakfast burrito but I still had a bit of room and was able to help her make it disappear.

The place was almost empty when we first sat down but it soon filled up until there was only one empty table. The waitress told us there had already been two breakfast rushes so far. It's absolutely heartwarming to see a local business do so well.

For months after Karlita and I moved back to ABQ we hit dozens of Mexican food restaurants seeking what we call our "default Mexican"---the place where the food is always good, well served and reasonable on prices. We've had such a place everywhere we've lived and had become dismayed that such a place was hard to find in ABQ. Then we discovered Mick's----it was everything we hoped for. Their prices are as much as half of the more touristy places, and their food comes out fast and bountiful. "Chili Fix" is a perfect name in that their chili, both red, green, and in between, is always rich, nuanced with flavor and just the right amount of heat (for us anyway). Mick's is our favorite everyday Mexican place; check it out...

Mick's has been my daughter and my Saturday breakfast spot since before she could walk. We get the Hungry Man Breakfast. She eats the bacon, toast and pancake (which they make to look like mickey mouse). I eat the sausage, eggs, and hashbrowns smothered in red. They have to roll both of us out of there.

I went the other day and there wasn't a seat to be had. Got a burrito to go.
