I have a confession. I thought, stupidly, that I didn't have enough on my plate, what with four kids, a husband, two cats, a dog, 15 hours at UNM plus a TA gig in another 3 hour course...so I offered to watch my friend's dogs while she is out of town. One is a quiet, 7 year old, small white dog, the other is an 8 week old husky/chow mix (freaking adorable) with tiny tanks, a taste for socks, and separation anxiety. So I have patches of piddle everywhere, wet, holey socks, and am operating on nearly no sleep from last night's 9 hour one note symphony, "YIKE! YIKE! YIKE! YIKE!" I haz a tired. We are trying a new trick tonight.

Newly elected Mayor Berry (I still can't say that aloud) is making some interesting staffing choices...as we all knew he would. Apparently, Mayor Berry has tapped ABQ Journal police reporter T.J.Wilham for what promises to be the wildly entertaining job as spokesman (read damage control, blame avoidance and fire extinguishment) for Darren White. Let the hilarity ensue!

(Another confession, besides the fact that I love parenthetical asides and find them irresistible at times, is that I cannot think of Mayor Berry without thinking of Marion Berry, which leads me to think about crack and/or preserves.)

Dishonest spin alert! A new study from CQ Press ranks the Albuquerque metro area as 8th in the nation in crime. However, if you actually read the article, it says Albuquerque proper is ranked at 72nd, and defines the metro area as Bernalillo, Sandoval, Valencia and Torrance counties. So, things are relatively quiet and safe here in the "Q" but watch your back in Los Lunas and Edgewood!

Thanksgiving is tomorrow. I am interested in what you have planned. Share with me what you are thankful for, what you are going to be dining on, or whom with. It is good to get the gratitude started early!

Sorry MF was a few minutes late...I fixed the glitch(ooooh, should we have a movie line contest??? YESSSSSSSSS...ok which movie featured the line "Well, just a second there, professor. We, uh, we fixed the *glitch*. So he won't be receiving a paycheck anymore, so it'll just work itself out naturally.") To know the answer is to possess the key to my heart.

I already haz the key, but I'll play along anyway, Milton, sez the Bobs.

I'm sure this typo is due to no sleep and wet socks, but it is Marion Barry with an A.

I'm thankful for Duke City Fix, am dining with 3 generations of family and eating our usual feast of Lebanese food and American Thanksgiving fare. Nothing says Thanksgiving like tabouli and turkey; ma'mool and mincemeat - mmm, good!

This item from today's Washington Post just makes me feel good, for some reason:

White House releases state dinner guest list

The White House has released the list of expected guests for tonight's state dinner.

The Honorable (Governor) Bill Richardson, Governor of New Mexico (D)
Mrs. Barbara Richardson, First Lady of New Mexico

That CQ link doesn't seems to go to the right spot. This seems to work better. So if Albuquerque itself ranks 72 (which is well below our population ranking) and the surrounding counties are the source of our 8th place finish, what exactly is the new mayor going to be able to do about that? Maybe he can bring in the Bobs to help.

Nothing like giving the new Mayor, who isn't even in office yet, the benefit of the doubt.

BB-- wish we were friends! your thanksgiving feast sounds awesome! I didn't get any response to my invite to my fellow grad students (apparently they don't know what rsvp means) and no one invited me anywhere, so I'm running off to LA where we'll have the traditional mexican -american thanksgiving feast: turkey and calabacitas.
I too am thankful for DCF. I've learned a lot about this new city of mine from people that really dig it... so thank you all! and happy turkey day.

@ Oliver, yes you do. And you were right.
@ Barelas Babe....yeah that was the reason ;-)
@ Sophie...great link
@ pepeye...that's the million dollar question!

Really, I don't think things are so bad in Albuquerque, but I spent 7 years in the heart of St, Louis. YIKES!

A classic mash-up from the Bobs I have not seen before. My Thanksgiving gift to you all!

Thanks Oliver. I am at UNM so I can't watch the vid posts (no speakers) but as soon as I get home I will dance my fool head off.

We wish you could be with us this Thanksgiving.

Ok, my turn. I am thankful for my beautiful family and patient husband. I am thankful for being able to finish the degree I started over 20 years ago and pursue my goal of law school. I am thankful that Sophie asked me to do this! I am thankful for my mom, who had a birthday yesterday (YOU GO TRIXIE RITA!) I am thankful for my incredible friends. And (channeling the Saturday Night Live version of Martha Stewart) I am thankful for caller ID and hard liquor (not really, I am a wine girl.)
