What happened to seperation of state and church? Against domestic partnerships or same-sex relationships? Then don't have one. DUH! But let those who aren't against it enjoy in their own choices. Besides, doens't the bible also say not to judge for only god can judge?

The American Taliban strikes again in getting the rest of us to live by their religious rules. I would like to see the tax-exempt status revoked of every single church which exhorted its members to lobby against the Domestic Partnership Act. I listened to KANW this morning and on their legislative report they aired the comments of two children, one 11 and the other 16. Both were taught to be against the Domestic Partnership Act. One said that this nation was founded on God's morals and that allowing homosexuals to get married was not following those morals--he also said that if this act passed, in the future, traditional marriages would be prohibited. The other, a girl, ranted that this was an insult to traditional marriage and "it was just WRONG to have a lesbian couple walking down the street, holding hands." I was horrifed to hear the hate these children were spewing--and were obviously taught in their churches. So very sad.

The most absurd part about all of this? The Domestic Partnership Act is not just for gay folk. It's for EVERYONE who is not married by law.

@OBTS wrote "-and were obviously taught in their churches. "

I'd like to see some proof to back up that statement. I am also sad to see the failure of this Act to fail, but it is equally unjust to see "The Church" and basically anyone that has strong religious beliefs to be lumped into the reason it failed.

Pfft... my 12 year old (soon-to-be) Hispanic step-son (child of my mexican immigrant fiance) said to me before the elections, "John McCain said if he was elected president, he was going to give all the mexicans passports and send them back to mexico." Kid's say stupid things.

On the other hand, there is no separation of church and state in the constitution.

And I hear the same hate (on the other side) coming from you and your ilk... so eh, whatdayagonnado.?

My comment should have read --I am also sad to see the failure of this Act.

Er, Ricky - The first amendment contains, from Wiki: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof . . ." which has been interpreted since Jefferson's time as meaning that church and state are separated.
The church is afraid that gay will sue to get married, using this law. This bill only establishes the rights of close companions/partners to make decisions. Maybe the bill inches New Mexico closer to gay marriage, but it certainly doesn't outright grant it.
