What's going on, Albuquerque?
I wish that the billionnaire Koch brothers would be sent into space, on a one way mission LOL
I remain concerned that there will be no meaningful reforms with the same people in charge. But did everyone see ex-Mayor Marty's opinion column in this morning's Journal? Hilarious to see him, the man who HIRED Ray Schultz and pushed for lowered standards for officers, offering advice on how to help.
I read it, OBTS...clearly not a lot of self-reflection going on at the Chavez household. Amazing he can be so brazen when his policies hold so much of the responsibility for this mess. And talk about playing politics...I am honestly a lot more optimistic for real change on Berry's watch than if Marty were still Mayor.
Marty never was one for self-reflection--unless you mean looking in the mirror and admiring himself. The only reason I think there will be change under Berry is because I think Susana and the Republican muckety-mucks in charge are VERY interested in making sure APD cleans up its act. Doesn't look so good for Susana to have the police department in the largest city in her state get taken over by the DOJ.
It's also kind of a downer for Albuquerque's image as a whole, which is very important to Berry if he wants to shake the economic gloom that's dominated the city during his tenure. Right now his "legacy" looks extremely tarnished...I'd imagine he has a lot vested in polishing it up a bit before his term ends.
I wonder about Berry. He never seems all that concerned about his legacy--or about this city that much.
This morning's Journal reported that $23 million has been paid out in settlements since this pattern of violence began. Very sad reality. Berry has done nothing for our local economy. We've had to give away millions of tax dollars in these cases that could have gone to projects that created jobs, provided raises for city employees, or other actions to stimulate our economy.
