"My job really does require that I'm on duty 24/7, and it's either that or reimburse me mileage. And actually, I think it's probably cheaper for the district to provide take-home cars. The same thing is true with the associate superintendents," Brooks said.

Brooks makes $250,000 a year and is supplied a brand new Ford Escape Hybrid from the taxpayers.

He, and the others, can't afford their own car and gas to and from work?

APS is broken on a lot of levels. This being one.

My mom is a home health nurse for Presbyterian. She is in her own car all day long going from patient home to patient home all around the city. They reimburse her mileage plus maintenance per mile. How spoiled are you Mr. Brooks. Do you ever feel bad that teachers are paid such paltry sums when administration officials take home the lion's share?

//Security at Albuquerque’s airport say their ready for the potential nationwide boycott of body scanners//

By the way, keep in mind that passengers aren't the only ones who hate the new policy. TSA employees are also pissed at and humiliated by the security requirements. I'm kind of surprised there hasn't been more of a reaction to the outrage from the top level TSA administration.

Benny, you beat me posting the other POV of the whole awesomeness of preventing terr0rism. Also, some places will do BOTH.

As if you really have a choice when flying?

What about the UNM president--who gets not only a car and reimbursed for mileage, but housing allowance. WHEN THERE IS A PERFECTLY LOVELY HOUSE FOR HIM TO LIVE IN ON CAMPUS.

Sorry to yell, but that little fact just pissed me off. Not only does Schmidly not live on campus, but he lives in Placitas, practically as far away from Albq. as one can get. Then he of course gets reimbursed for mileage. But UNM still needs to cut departments and professors' salaries. Grrrrrrr.

Well, as I understand it, it is the top level of TSA administration that came up with these new enhanced procedures. I am sure their view is that if someone working for TSA doesn't like performing those tasks, they can quit and there will be another person happy to take their job. 15% unemployment works for the overloards, doncha know.

Mr. Brooks you CLEARLY don't have the interests of your students at heart....LOSE the car, you can afford to pay your own gas and maintenance, especially if its just PEANUTS. So what if every supe gets one, why can't you be the exception to that rule and DO THE RIGHT THING for your students. Your $56k could go into a scholarship fund for petes sakes! $56k may be peanuts to you but not a family of four who survives on that amount.

One huge problem with education is that every district/university is trying to keep up with other districts/universities salaries "to stay competitive." Yet, staying competitive with the actual education delivered? what? what a concept!

Errr, there are about 900+ police cars that are taken home at the end of every shift.... versus 19 APS staff cars - keep things in perspective, people....

gT: cop car protects his/her home pretty well - didn't protect my house a half block away (twice). I think it has to do with who pays for the time for the cop to get dressed - if he/she does it at home, then they absorb the time - if at work, then we absorb the time.
