Morning Fix - Don't Settle for a Quick Check

• Fight over virtual charter schools headed to court after state Public Education Commission votes to appeal Education Secretary's approval of two startup charters the commission had earlier denied. Commission wants moratorium on virtual charters until their effectiveness can be determined.

• Dear UNMH, What's all this fuss about the need for a new hospital? Let's share our beds. With love :) Lovelace Health System.

• Rio Rancho city council may censure its mayor tonight.

• No changes to NM driver's license law for immigrants likely this year, as House committee votes to table "compromise" legislation.

• City Attorney's office changes its mind. Finds it does have the resources to file suit to enforce new minimum wage ordinance.

• Study #1 bad news: UNM faculty salaries lag from $7,000 to $21,000 behind its peers.

• Study #2 bad news: New Mexico #1 in teen pregnancies.

• Negligent drivers in the afterworld beware! Attorney Russ Whitener dies from cancer. Several years ago, Journal columnist Leslie Linthicum wrote this interesting piece on the flashy personal injury lawyer.

1)  Can't they just argue that Hanna is just a designate, and has no power to issue charters?

2)  I think this is kingdom building by UNMH - how about building a community health center with the money, and rent the LL rooms

3)  Sucks being Mayor or city council in RR - this is what happens when retirees have too much time on their hands, I guess...

4)  This is what happens when you don't play nice in elections, Susana

5)  Sunshine works!

6)  Lucky for UNM, there's a recession

7)  Maybe Hanna S can come up with an online abstinence education curriculum and show that online education works

8)  Will his commercials live on????

9)  If only their clothing wasn't so industrial (but maybe its signed)

One thing I never liked about Whitener's ads was the phrasing. There is no such thing as a "quick check". Checks are neither fast nor slow. They just exist. Now, you can have a check that was written or drafted QUICKLY, but that would make too much sense.
