With all of the dysfunction within APS and the teachers, maybe parents should consider unschooling.

I have a deep dislike for mountain bikers, but do concede that they need a place to ride. Instead of bandit trails, maybe the Fat Tire guy should watch the documentary, "Pedal Driven" to see how trails can be built to coexist with land conservancy.

Yeah, not sure about Mr. Fat Tire and his "secret" trail.  Not cool, dude, not cool.  My guess is that non-compactable dirt goes by another name:  sand.

//What the hell is non-compactable dirt?//

When you're building a multi-story building, you need to make sure that the ground below your foundations is stable, and meets certain engineering standards.  The last thing you want is for the dirt to be inconsistent across the site.  This would result in what's called "differential settlement," where part of the dirt compacts under the weight of the building, causing major structural damage.

What is "fishy" to me isn't the claim but who provided the fill dirt, and under what specifications.  Given the article says that the City is on task to remove it, I'm guessing they didn't properly spec what kind of fill they needed - bad form on their part.

And regarding Weck's opening a new "Sliders" restaurant, this quote:

“We wanted to combine the greatness of a Chick-fil-A and a Five Guys [Burgers and Fries] with a similar concept,” Kaplan said.

kind of turns my stomach.  Blech.

Actually, Benny, my favorite quote from that article is the next sentence:

"We want it to feel like a spring picnic experience."

I presume he will install wind machines and a big pile of sand in front of them to blow around--because that would be a spring picnic experience in NM.

If they could combine Le Peep's great food with Weck's great service, it'd be wonderful

The downtown grocery site does not have fill, it has the original dirt.

Thanks for the clarification, mombat.  The article makes a whole lot more sense now.
