Morning Fix - Gleek, the Wondertwins' Sidekick

  • There are geeks among us, let us wish them luck as they vie for microrobotic engineering par excellence.
  • Wow, that was quick. Vaughan 10K Award Homes (whatever THAT was), et. al., are no more.
  • Albuquerque-based MMA superstar Keith Jardine set to headline upcoming "The Ultimate Fighter" UFC event.
  • Big Bill suggests we take the advice of many a bumper sticker and "Hang Up and Drive!", at least for one day.
  • Convicted PRC member returns to work, at least until appeal process is exhausted.
  • Albuquerque's future job growth to be found in middle earth, er, I mean, middle skills.
  • And lastly, Albuquerqueans desirous of marrying their cousins are free to do so, according to Gawker. (On a personal note, it's nice to know the three states in which I have resided in my life are all cousin-nuptial friendly.)

Yeah, I'm sure everyone will abide by that "no calling/no texting" on April 30th. Just like they do every day. I see more and more people texting while driving. Scares the living daylights out of me. What is WRONG with people?

I would like to know who made 3 letters per key for texting on most cellphones.
Give humans a real keyboard with 1 letter per key. Not that you sould type and drive at the same time heeh

i'm holding out for the dvorak smartphone, so i can text EVEN FASTER.

actually, it makes me wonder if there is a key arrangement studied yet that optimizes the typical hand position for texting?

Did that to someone just the other day... along with rubber-banding the ESC key and taping the optical mouse.

one of my favorite april fool's jokes is to take a screen snapshot, rotate it 180 degrees in photoshop and then hide all menus. works great on people with a tenuous grasp of computers.

I have no interest in consanguineous marriage myself, but I think that it will be interesting to see what effect genetic screening might have on this - my understanding is that previously this was one way of using social control to reduce the number of people with genetic disabilities, especially those from recessive genes. Hmmm, this could be a fun summer project for local bioethicists. Anyone want to join me?
