Where are the April showers?  Sucked up by climate change, people.  Get used to living without rain.

Uh, BB? I think the Daily Lobo story was an April Fools' joke. The story was written in a serious fashion, but in print form it came with a humorous graphic and the little bit at the end where it says "See ___ on page 3" led you nowhere, so I'm pretty sure it was a joke.

Ha - the joke is on me, John. Thanks for letting me know - I missed the print version.

You know, I thought maybe "Professor Marie Lobo" was a fake name, but apparently not. :) Or else it is a really elaborate April Fool's joke - with supporting website as well?

I'm looking at the article in the Friday issue right now and I don't see the humorous graphic at all, just a chart with the ratios of students to advisors in different colleges. And the page jump, does seem to have a typo, but does continue on page 3.

So I don't think it's a joke.

catering to and funding for the sports programs at UNM is most definitively NOT a joke - it is a revenue enhancement decision made by those with personal financial agendas.

whether it is moral, ethical, long-term viable, are whole 'nother questions.

Huh. So maybe it is legit? In any case, way back when I was teaching undergrads at UNM, I had some interesting experiences with athletes and their support staff. Most of the student athletes were great, but no matter where I taught, I've never been comfortable with coaches (once even an AD) coming to my office to talk about the student's progress in my class. I used FERPA as a stalling technique, in case anyone is interested...

Umm, based on my prior knowledge of the advisement system, most of it is legit; student athletes have separate advisors, they have separate tutors...they have their own student success center on the second floor of the "new" Student Support and Services Center.  I don't imagine that Villegas would be boasting about the separate nature of the student athlete support, though.  See  http://www.golobos.com/compliance/nm-compliance.html
