What is it about news website comment sections that bring out the most extreme haters? It doesn't matter the topic, either. Odd.

Swine flu. Well, can you blame people for flocking to the hospitals since the media has whipped up a frenzy out there? Quite a nice distraction from torture memos, don't you think?

Should we air the possibility of a flu outbreak in our country or letters about how we tortured prisoners of war. I can see what a tough call that would be.

I reckon the news has enough space for both stories.

Yep, Andy, the papers and the teevee news do have enough space for both stories. Tricross: it's not letters about how we tortured prisoners, but the issue of whether anyone should be held accountable. Here's what the news ISN'T telling you about flu deaths: normal, old garden variety flu kills thousands of people right here in the U.S. every year. So why the big kerfluffle over this particular variety?

Hey, homeless people need to make phone calls, too.

Because swine are scary ... did you see the photo of the pig KOB used for their report, that's the scroungiest, dirtiest pig they could find I bet. I must've been absent the day they taught fear mongering in journalism school. It's an art form really, maybe it was an elective?

Sooo... then you are thinking the swine flu news is being hyped specifically to distract us from holding people accountable for how this country tortured prisoners of war ?
Even a mediocre conspiracy theory needs to go a little deeper than that. Who might be responsible for this ? and how is they have got all the worlds media to go along with this ?

I don't know if anyone was saying it was a purposeful distraction (maybe they were saying that, not sure?). I think the large corporate media outlets tend to chase the shiniest object available and while it would be a stretch to say it's a conspiracy, I think a lot of news agencies can be easily led astray from real news to cover things with more entertainment value.
