What's going on, Albuquerque?
Shame about De Anza. I was looking forward to new life there. Great location to keep Nob Hill going down Central.
Wasn't there La Santa Muerte scene in Breaking Bad?
I fear for the De Anza project after this. I have a little bit of an insider's perspective and it seems like there was stubbornness and an unwillingness to compromise on all sides. I hope the ultimate result isn't another vacant lot, but this seemed like an economically viable plan and now that they've lost 2 prospective developers I imagine it will be harder to find a third.
La Santa Muerte was indeed in Breaking Bad a few times - the killer cousins were devotees and there was an extensive scene shot at a shrine that I imagine was shot in the ghost town of Cabezon or thereabouts...
Yeah, I am also fearful for the De Anza becoming anything other than a vacant lot. Is it necessary to use those NPS tax credits, I wonder? I also don't understand why the NPS insisted on the 1964 standards. None of the stories fully fluff out the reasoning there.
Too bad Innovate ABQ didn't select the De Anza site for their project. Seems to be no end to the entities willing to throw money to rehab the First Baptist location.
I dont see it being torn down seeing that the murals in the basement are one of a kind, now a fire is another thing, even with $60K a year security.
The Baptist Church site is a little bit bigger than the De Anza, which is nowhere near a match for UNM's ambitions. Mi3ke, stranger things have happened...historic significance and artistic value certainly don't always guarantee preservation.
Phil_O Not clear to me what exactly are UNM's "ambitions". One presser seemed to say that with the Baptist site UNM was staking out a new western boundary for the campus and Innovate ABQ was secondary.
That's essentially what I mean...a new dorm, office space and incubators for UNM technology start-ups, etc. Sounds like a lot of building and a lot of investment.
