What's going on, Albuquerque?

Perry is ridiculous. Why does the city keep such total liabilities around (and richly compensate them)? Is his job so difficult that they couldn't find someone with basic PR skills and a non-adversarial relationship with the public to replace him?
Unfortunately, Berry keeps Perry because he obviously agrees with Perry's assessment. And their names rhyme.
Also, can anyone explain to me why APD officers NEED AR-14 rifles? Can't they just use a good old gun? I couldn't care less if the officers who get them are trained to use them--they can get their jollies shooting off military weapons at the shooting range like everyone else. (yes, yes, gun people, I KNOW the AR-14 is not what the military uses per se--it's the civilian version of the military weapon. Which makes it different....how?)
"And their names rhyme." Perfect. I think that's enough reason to hire anyone!
I agree, OBTS. But if officers have apparently been using their personal semi-automatic rifles up to this point (!!!!??!!!), maybe debuting something standardized will minutely reduce the macho compunction to whip them out and wave them around at the slightest provocation.
The only time these weapons would have been useful is when the rival motorcycle gangs shot it out on 4th Street (I think last year?). Of course, APD's finest, AR-15 trained officers didn't show up well after the shootings took place - but it was their chance to take out a bunch of gang members at the same time, and really up their body count for the year.....
Oh yeah, don't worry about the neighbors getting accidentally shot - they can slip on their body armor... http://www.securityprousa.com/bodyarmor.html It would also be helpful if the neighbors would also live in cinder block homes and not those flimsy frame and stucco houses...
(A shotgun is much better for taking out a suspect at close quarters than an assault weapon - less potential collateral damage. Also more effective at taking out locks on doors (bigger blast region, lots of pellets opens doors pretty effectively...)
