• Breathalyzer machines at bars -- seems like a good idea, that could be even better. MADD is against the idea, though.

• The law was only a year old when two men allegedly broke it -- aiming a laser at a police helicopter in flight. If convicted, they could face up to five years behind bars.

• Third fatal shooting since the DOJ report occurs as APD officers kill man armed with a knife after he allegedly stabbed a good Samaritan and advanced on the officers.

Cochiti Lake's swim beach will be closed for repairs on Memorial Day weekend, from damage that occurred during last September's flooding.

• And, not only does Charlize Theron not like our weather... neither does Morgan Freeman.

Why doesn't MADD just come out and oppose all drinking anywhere at any time?  Because that is their true position.  If MADD thinks there should be 0.0 level, then let them lobby legislators to establish that level, but until they do, the legal limit is .08.

And Morgan Freeman also proves that to be an actor one does not have to be extraordinarily bright.  Hot in the desert.  Imagine.

they're not opposed to drinking, just drinking and driving. I'm tired of people making excuses for drunk drivers!

Who's making excuses for drunk drivers?

Once Banned Twice Shy seemed to do so, in their post today

I don't see that at all. I think OBTS is pointing out that the legal limit for alcohol in your system when driving is .08. The article says "MADD, by the way, is deadset against the machines, saying they make people think they can stop drinking just below a .08 and still drive, which can still be dangerous and can still lead to a DWI." That implies they don't think anyone should be allowed to drive with alcohol in their system, no matter how little they've had to drink. Which is exactly the point OBTS makes.

Hettie, well I guess I agree with MADD's position then. I don't think it's safe to drive with any alcohol in my system

You're welcome to your position. But that doesn't mean OBTS was "making excuses for drunk drivers."

I, personally, am just as concerned about people who drive while sleep deprived, a situation as dangerous as drunk driving and which arises far more frequently, particularly as there's no strident national campaign to make people aware of the dangers. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1739867/
