I love John Fleck's science writing at the Journal, but MAN does he know how to kill a guy's good mood.  I love this city, and the thought of it just drying up and blowing away makes me die a little inside.

Also, not that "Newscastic" is by any means a reputable news source, but are ANY of those random facts true?  I mean, we know that Albuquerque can't have the most Q's in its name, because it's tied with Alburquerque (both the one in Spain and the one in the Philippines).

Whoa. Friends of the Bosque aren't gonna like that whole cut-back-vegetation-along-the-river thing.

@Benny, my thoughts exactly regarding the Newscastic piece, but thought I'd throw it up there to see if anyone an verify.

and I thought that Los Alamos had the most PhDs per capita...

Yeah, the Newscastic piece is suspect.  Because there are obviously 3 Albuquerques (one can argue that this Albuquerque had the 'r' of the other two originally, so is the same name as the others).

Benny:  unfortunately, Albuquerque's growth has been unsustainable and developers and city leaders have ignored that fact.  It's too bad, but this area is not meant to support as many people as it does.  Eventually something has to give--and since absolutely nothing is being done about climate change, the population of Albuquerque and New Mexico will have to decline and we will leave a crappier Chaco Canyon behind for future generations to discover.

Maybe they are differentiating between a "pure" city (Albuquerque) and a unified city/county (Los Alamos).

Oh to be a fly on the wall when archaeologists determine that everyone belonged to a cult that worshiped a goatee-sporting, porkpie-hat-wearing deity known as Heisenberg.

Hunter is right. Los Alamos county, which includes the towns of Los Alamos and White Rock, has more PhDs per capita.
