Aand if anyone wants to make a really nice weekend road trip, Tommy Castro will be headlining the Trinidaddio Blues Festival in Trinidad, CO on Saturday, Aug 29. Also on the bill are the Albuquerque Blues Connection and Soul Kitchen!

Also happening this weekend is PAGAN PRIDE DAY on Sunday at Bataan Park from 10am to 6pm.
What a weekend to be a sci fi/zombie fan or worship an alternative god!

You know--those car accidents at schools wouldn't happen if parents didn't insist on driving their chunky kids to school in their chunky SUVs. Or if the chunky kids wouldn't drive themselves to school in their chunky SUVs. Whatever happened to walking or biking to school? Or taking the bus? The city focuses on making DRIVING to school safer--but doesn't even dream of making it easier (or easiest) to bike or walk to school. And people wonder why obesity is the US's largest health crisis. Grrrrrr.

"Albuquerque City Councilor Ken Sanchez said Thursday, "Basically, this was a developer's responsibility, but we could not wait for the developer to come in and build this road.""
Okay, let's see - the developers forget to put in the infrastructure for the school, so the tax payers get to pony up, and some other slated projects get put on hold. We need to get money upfront from these developers and have the city/county contract out the work. A good reason to have school-related impact fees for new development.

Regarding walking to school - heaven forbid!

So my two kiddos are new to public school this year. Here's an excerpt from APS's "Eighth Grade Student and Family Guide" - on page 25 under the header: "Helping your child get to school - If possible, drop your child off at school and pick them up afterwards."

why would APS be encouraging that!?!?
