• Duke City home prices up by 5.8% year-over-year, nearly double statewide increase.
• City Council earns its pay tonight. Minimum wage increase, Paseo del Norte funding and proposed Montaño Wal-Mart are all on the agenda.
• The good news: College is relatively cheap in New Mexico. The bad news: Fewer of us graduate. See the details.
• West Nile widens as summer persists. Six new cases reported.
• Outta gas! They once called Phillips 66 "the gasoline that won the West." Now, at many suddenly-closed stations the pumps are empty. What gives?
• See Marky Mark up close and personal this fall. Wanna be in a film with Mark Wahlberg? Extras are needed and the casting call is this coming Saturday in Santa Fe. Hint to guys: start growing that beard.
I don't understand why ABQ is on the hook for the majority of funding of Paseo, when it's a state highway and the increase in traffic is mostly due to Rio Rancho (cheapskates!) As a side note, since this project comes out of sales tax revenue, we still are paying for Dave and Busters at Winrock - maybe if we get rid of this TIDD, the project could be paid for without, say, increasing the fees to enter the Zoo....
Comment by hettie on September 5, 2012 at 9:56pm I agree with Shotsie about Paseo. Why isn't there a single dime coming from Rio Rancho when it's those residents who stand to benefit most from the upgrade? If you work in Abq and choose to live in Rio Rancho, traffic is part of the choice you made. The $50 million could be better spent elsewhere within the city.
