What's going on, Albuquerque?
Never read the comments, Benny. Never even think about it. Because the comments always make you despair for humanity. Even a story about a squeaky little mouse will make you sad. Don't do it, Benny, don't look, it-- WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?
The $6 million award will not be paid by the city--the Tort Claims Act caps damages at $400,000. So the city will pay that--if it doesn't appeal and prevail. Now, the $6 million might come into play at the federal trial, so the city should probably settle on that one if they have half a brain. Which they haven't demonstrated up to this point. Also, Brandenburg has said that she can't re-open any cases. Even though she has new evidence, she can't reopen. Time for her to go.
And Benny, yes, unless you wish to be driven to drink, avert your eyes from the news site's comments.
OBTS, my understanding is that the feds are weighing possible indictments based on the findings in the DOJ report. While Brandenburg's record on cop shootings is terrible - and there is $25 million backing up that assessment - I would think that federal charges will trump whatever she chooses to do (or not do, as the case may be).
