Wow, the Hilton was not only vacant but never completed. News to me too!

I think you guys are mistaking the Hilton that has been vacant with the one which houses the Rancher's Club.  Two different properties, people.

I have to love the cluelessness level of people who wonder why flaming bags of paper sent off into the air might be banned in a drought-stricken area.

Yay for Monica and Elvis at Pasion! That building is definitely in need of some updating. I'll have to stop by while they're filming!

The Rancher's Club one stopped being a Hilton 4-5 years ago or so and became a Crowne Plaza, leaving Albuquerque without a hotel carrying the Hilton brand for the first time since Conrad Hilton built what's now Hotel Andaluz in 1939. This news item is about the cruddy, half-finished airport hotel-looking building on the hill below the Diversion Channel bike trail that has been sitting derelict and boarded up for the last four years.

You're right, Phil_0, but I think those of us who have been in Albq. a while will always call the Crowne Plaza the Hilton.

I always liked the food (and the music!) at Pasion, but the service was always hit or miss.  They're really located at the wrong side of downtown to get the consistent business they need for more waitstaff.

In college, we used to build "zilches" from dry cleaner bags and bamboo, with a candle in the middle.  The name "zilch" came from the sound the plastic would make when it would catch on fire, and flaming (little) balls of plastic would "zilch" downward.  (The plastic was cold by the time it hit the ground, OBTS - there's a reason you don't see forest fires in the winter.).

Maybe they should launch the farolitos from a friendly golf course - it sounds like a great sight to see in the Christmas Eve evening.

Yup, OBTS, for sure. Wonder whatever happened to the giant rotating H?
