6 million years old?  Why everyone knows its really 6000 years old (at least the creationists at work do, and they'll start on about how flawed scientific dating techniques are, so, of course, they're right..)

Street Car?  If they can site those 500,000 jobs on the corridor maybe we can have a subway.

An age somewhere in the ballpark of 6 million has long been the scientific consensus (based on river gravels near the Colorado's outlet in the Gulf of California), but a few recent studies suggested the canyon was much older based on data from upper segments of the river. The new theory essentially unifies those views, arguing that while certain upper sections might be in the 60-70 million range, the canyon system as a whole wasn't completely carved until 6 million ya.

Shotsie is absolutely right, though...creationists will pounce on this "disagreement" as evidence that science can't get its story straight. How many times do they have to be told this is how it's supposed to work?

Shotsie beat me to it.  Apparently there are young earth creationist publications available for sale in Grand Canyon gift shops.

Re: the story about developmentally disabled NM residents not getting needed services:  not mentioned, but kind of referenced in that story is the poor leadership in the Human Services dept.  Once again, Susana appointed a poorly qualified individual to head up that department and told her only this:  we have to save money.  Hence vacant positions unfilled and funded money being returned because that is success in Susana's cabinet--not using all the money given and returning it as "savings."  You'd think that Susana might give a crap about developmentally disabled New Mexicans, seeing as her sister is one, but I guess she can't relate.  It's a shame.

So there are people who believe that the world is only 6000 years old. There are also people who believe in Santa Clause, Big Foot and the Chupacabra. So what?

I'd say "So what" as well, but then the Santa/Sasquatch/Chupacabra believers aren't typically making policy while way too many of the 6000yr old Earth types are.

Wow. All this fear of about 200 schools out of how many tens of thousands? Trust me, there are people who believe in a lot worse making policy.
