Morning Fix: South of the Border

  • More on the City Council "takeover." I think Councilor Peña is probably right that there might have been more constructive ways of getting a message across. But I don't think shutting things down and making arrests is an answer either. Also: terrible comments, even for the TV News sites.
  • Add open government to the growing list of things City Hall may need help doing right...
  • More downtown changes. This time it's the Central/Rio Grande/Lomas intersection that's getting a makeover.
  • The election season is heating up as Dems use Martinez's own words against her. Will it make up for all her money? Lots of big out-of-state donors there.
  • Finally, isn't it time you started thinking about a trip to Juarez? Homicides are down to 10 a week!

I find it a pity that the City Council can only think of punitive measures to address the protesters.  Kind of highlights what a problem we have, doesn't it?

I am sure Susanna's campaign will claim that her words are just a dirty liberal lie about her.  The saddest part is that people will nod their heads and agree with her.

The local press showing Susanna buying Girl Scout cookies and reading to first graders seems to be enough to keep her approval ratings high. I don't get it. Are the people in our state that badly informed or do they just not care?

DCMc:  people in our state ARE badly informed because the local media only shows positive images of Susanna and downplays any kind of negative news regarding her policies--or just repeat her talking points, of course.

How did the audio get leaked of Susanna's conversations and those of her staff?

Not through local media, Adelita.  Mother Jones reported the story with the leaked audio.  Local media grudgingly and sparingly reported on the Mother Jones article, always careful to call Mother Jones a "leftist" or "liberal" publication.  So as to discredit it.

Mother Jones just says they "obtained" the audio, indication as to where or who from.
There is certainly no shortage of disgruntled former Martinez staffers, though. Seems like her adviser team ends up alienating a lot of people...

I imagine it's one of her disgruntled staffers, and if that's the case, "liberal" media can't be blamed for her getting caught red handed.
