Morning Fix: Thales says, "Water is all".

  • Waterwise, we're way over budget. And there just aren't enough water police around.
  • Speaking of water, the Western Governors Association meets today to grapple with natural resource issues, including water rights.
  • Be bear aware! Clueless camper survives bruin attack in the Sandias. I'm glad she will be okay and I'm sorry for the loss of her dog, but c'mon folks, isn't rule #1 of camping to Never Put Food In Your Tent?
  • Truancy tallies at APS show that proactive pilot program is putting children back in school.
  • Landscape photographer and UNM alumnus Joe Deal dies. Check out the second image in this slide show for a view of Albuquerque, circa 1975.
  • Monday morning smiles eluding you? See kitten cuteness on former Albuquerque mayor Jim Baca's blog.
  • If that isn't enough of a kitten fix, consider fostering a kitten or a litter of kittens! Albuquerque's Animal Foster Care Month continues for a few more days.

Wonder what part of Albuquerque that was. Looks almost like the lower foothills area... maybe not. Love those old photographs. There's a book out now that has historic photos of Albuquerque that I keep meaning to get but never do.

Here's another Albuquerque image from Joe Deal.

San Francisco MOMA (I love that building) is opening a retro of New Topographics on July 17, Joe Deal's Albuquerque images. Frank Gohlke also has some Albuquerque images in this show, plus John Schott's Route 66 series.

Whew - I've successfully diverted my thinking from fostering kittens (not practical with a broken ankle) to planning a trip to the other SF.

NEVER KEEP FOOD IN YOUR TENT. Good grief, even I know that. I'm glad she's going to be ok.

Another photo from Joe Deal. After browsing around on Google maps, I think this area is around Manor Ct and Hilldale Rd NE in the foothills by I-40

NEVER KEEP POTATO CHIPS, GUMMI BEARS AND COKE IN YOUR TENT. Anyone who camps out in a day use only campground where NO CAMPING is allowed should know that, right?

I'm just sorry their little doggy had to pay for their stupidity.

Not to mention the bear.

She punched the bear in the nose. Good for her!
