Re: Alb. Journal

Can anybody point to the actual editorial piece?

In the instance of the Albuquerque Journal I will stand accused of being utilitarian. My formula for the value of the AJ is: are there enough savings in coupons / ads on Fridays and Sundays to substantially offset the the cost and inconvenience of obtaining a hard copy of the "newspaper"?

Generally for me, the answer is NO when you add in the cost of recycling ( my cost time wise and the cost to the City Of Albuquerque ...I don't have a bird in a cage or a puppy ), etc.

The editorial and news content is unreliable and irrelevant for the most part. Everything else is generally available from other sources and in greater depth.

So the answer is "NO" to a subscription and rarely a purchase out of a box.

About the Water Park: the article neglects to say that a couple can't just show up and use it for a small fee:

"In order to comply with the ordinance [about parking] but still accommodate local residents, the Radisson came up with guest packages involving the temporary use of a hotel room or, in the case of larger groups, multiple rooms during the day. The hotel will not sell individual day passes.

The basic day pass will cost $120 and give four people access to a room, where they can change and store their belongings, for up to four hours while they go to the water park. A fifth person can be added to the group for about $30, but that's it. Hotel rooms are limited to five guests."

In this case the Albuq. Journal article is more complete.

was in the south valley Saturday night (Kathy's Take-Out area) and unleaded gas was $2.39
gas in nwabq, where I live, is $2.59 :( what's up with that?

Re: ABQ Journal. Tracey Dingmann hates the Journal, so anything she writes is automatically biased against it.

Re: Splashtastic. No where in the press release does it state the cost for the general public to use its park, which requires you to purchase packages for 4 that include a room for four-hour blocks only.

Interesting analysis, Anna.

Well Tracy definitely isn't the only one who dislikes the Journal, and if you would take the time to read Abqjournalwatch, you would notice its not all Journal bashing.

But I wonder Anna, with education already having been cut numerous times over the past couple years, is it ok for the Journal to publish a ridiculous editorial calling for more education cuts? I mean that's definitely one way to tackle our 50% graduation rates is by cutting education again right?
