Morning Fix: The King, A Coke, A Kickoff and Karma

  • R.I.P. El Rey
  • Legislators listen to teachers' concerns about low morale and the ridiculous teacher evaluation system put in place by non-educators.
  • Albuquerque student Christy Bird sings "America the Beautiful" in Keres in Coke commercial.  Well done Christy, we are proud of you.
  • Baillo's customers thank Seattle Seahawks for second half kickoff return.
  • And speaking of the Superbowl, do you believe in green chile karma?
  • Lobos and Aggies in bloody battle
  • In heartbreaking news, former Lobo A.J. Hardeman involved in rollover crash.

Stuart Dyson is once again late to the party. The El Rey went dark months ago (back in October, even?) and the owners have been looking for a new tenant since at least December.

The owner/management of the El Rey were never good concert promoters anyway. Hopefully someone comes in turns it around

Hi kids:  Call it "El Rey."  Because when you say "The El Rey," you are saying The The Rey.  Yes, I am being pedantic, but it chafes.  Not to mention the egregious use of the adjective "amazing" in that El Rey story.  AIIIIYEEEEEE.  #banamazing.

The article about Christy Bird is here.  Amazingly, all of the comments are supportive and positive - pretty rare for the KOB comment section.

And OBTS:  Perhaps The El Rey should seek funding from The Los Angeles Angels?  Such redundancy would be amazing!

And yet The The played El Rey circa 25 years ago.

I saw the Los Lobos band there for the La Pistola y El Corazon tour!

If you're going to be picky about a translation, do it right - "Because when you say "The El Rey," you are saying The The Rey.King."  The actual name of the place is "El Rey Theater", which means, "The King Theater".  Which makes more sense than "The King" (which may be trademarked by Burger King, anyway...) (Great comment, btw, SLF)

Anyway, Kathy Zimmer probably benefited pretty well from the $700K that the previous leasee pumped into the building  - I don't know if she has to pay  it back - but having new bathrooms is probably worth going there -

Maybe Neal C could throw a show or two there....

The El Rey is very near the Rio Grande River.

'Amazing' is almost pleasant when placed next to 'awesome'. -The Dee
